John and Greg have been staples of the Lingfield College PE department for the last three years. Known to students as Mr. Mell and Mr. Marsh, they launched LCFC in the summer of 2023 with a dual mission: to share their love for the game and to fill a vital gap in local sports—particularly high-quality training for girls.

As fathers and grandfathers themselves, they struggled to find a camp that met their standards for their own daughters and granddaughters. So, they built one!

Why Choose LCFC? Lingfield Colts has grown steadily because of our "quality-first" philosophy. Unlike larger franchise camps that often rely on inexperienced or untrained staff, John and Greg personally lead every session.

When your child joins us, they aren't just supervised; they are coached by fully qualified teachers with decades of educational experience. We keep things professional but fun—while we’re "Mr. Mell and Mr. Marsh" during the school week, at camp, we’re just John and Greg! 😎

John Marsh, Camp Lead & Head Coach

UEFA qualified coach. First Aid, Safeguarding Children and Young People (Lingfield College) trained.

As a young footballer, I represented England at Under 12 and Under 13 level. In my late teens, my opportunity to join the Arsenal youth set up was cut short by a severe injury. My playing career was restricted and I took up coaching. I went on to travel Europe gathering coaching experience at various clubs, Ajax and Malmo amongst them, all of which culminated in acquiring the UEFA B licence way back in the mid 70’s. I continued to play football at a semi-professional level. I allowed my B license to expire after becoming a full time Primary School teacher nearly thirty years ago. I went on to become the head teacher of a large primary school in South East London before I retired from full time teaching in 2021. I am still a qualified football coach and enjoy teaching as a part time sports coach at Lingfield Prep.

Greg Mell, Camp Lead & Head Coach

With over 20 years of international coaching experience, my goal is simple: helping players of all levels improve their skills while falling in love with the game.

My journey in sport has taken me across the globe—from coaching on cruise ships to serving as the Director of School Sports in Cancun, Mexico. Today, I balance my role as Head of Digital Services for a Health and Wellbeing company with my passion for teaching PE at Lingfield College Prep. Whether I’m leading an after-school club or a full-day camp, I bring a focus on both physical performance and mental well-being.

The Essentials:

Education: BSc Psychology and Sports Coaching; PGCE Primary Physical Education.
Certifications: FA Qualified Coach, Mental Health First Aid Trained.
Safety: First Aid for Sport; Safeguarding Children & Young People (Lingfield College & NHS).
Bonus: I am fully bilingual and happy to coach in Spanish!

I live in East Grinstead with my wife, two daughters, and our two cats. When I’m not on the pitch, you’ll usually find me cheering on Liverpool and of course England!

Depending on the size of the group attending camp, we will bring in sufficient DBS-checked assistant staff so that we always comply with the recommended staff/student ratios and safeguarding regulations of both the FA and Lingfield College.
