Teaching

‘Education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel.’ –Plutarch

As an instructor, I strive to develop each classroom environment with my students' unique interests and learning concerns in mind.  This looks like a comfortable community space where students can practice critical thinking skills to carry into their future education and careers.

Specifically, my approach to language teaching, and my work in Second Language Acquisition, are informed by the science of learning, the communities of Spanish speakers that learners will encounter in their lifetimes, and most importantly, by each student that I teach. I encourage students to explore Spanish grammar and vocabulary such that they can connect their personal experiences to current issues in social life and culture in the Spanish-speaking world.
