Essay on Octavia E. Butler

I wrote this essay at the end of a course study of Octavia E. Butler, a renowned science fiction author. Butler found a way to express the troubling and critical events around her through a genre mostly uncharted by Black and female authors; being both, her exploration into the genre turned self-admittedly obsessive. Her readers in turn have grown obsessive, as well. Her fellow writers, emulative. My essay focuses on Octavia and her female characters' progression towards greatness and what it means for the female reader. It takes shape in an article form to integrate a multimedia experience of Octavia E. Butler's work.
