My goal is to find a professional space in writing, publishing, and/or project management where my creative strengths can contribute to a greater vision. Creating and maintaining order in my work provides me with a sense of accomplishment, along with recognizing and cultivating others’ talents around me. As someone who is detail-oriented and aesthetically-driven, I value quality and consistency in my work. I excel in both independent and collaborative environments and often find myself taking on leadership roles and responsibilities. I do well at expressing my ideas candidly while finding common ground with others and identifying ways to integrate more than one good idea.
Both career experience and academia have prepared me for my future goals. My liberal arts education has made distinct impressions of which I’ll carry into my career: the power of formulating multimodal information, the importance of interdisciplinary integration, and the appreciation for the transferable skill of developing and defending a thesis. Before returning to school, I spent five years steadily practicing freelance art illustration, creative writing, and marketing my own small business. I built a small but reliable client list, creating custom illustrations and building multiple collaborations in freelance and wholesale projects. Through this experience, I’ve honed skills in graphic and multimodal design, learned more about communication and collaboration in a business setting, and discovered my love for curating beautiful work.
Before earning a Bachelor of Arts in English Studies, I earned my Associates Degree in Nursing in 2008. Thirteen years of experience as a hospital bedside nurse provided me with valuable and transferable insight and skill. I know what it’s like to work within an interdisciplinary team, manage tight schedules, problem solve under pressure, and multi-task in a stressful environment. Health care requires the utmost agility of one’s disposition, and I’ve found that the spaces of writing, publishing, and project management are similar; they are all quickly-evolving spheres that seek out those most passionate, some might even say “called”.
