Tamworth — Lindsay Butler Studios

Lindsay Butler Studios has been operating for 25 years, growing from a backyard shed at Kootingal to studios in Tamworth and Tweed Heads.

At the helm is Lindsay Butler OAM and his partner, country singer Shaza Leigh.

Mr Butler said that back in the 1970s, more country music was being recorded in Tamworth than anywhere in Australia, and he decided to capitalise on that by setting up his own studio.

"When I was a young bloke growing up in Tenterfield I always used to dream about having my own recording studio one day, and it's happened," he said.

"I just love the music and love recording and trying to help artists. We've certainly helped a lot of young people on their way."

Mr Butler said his recording style had a certain sound, and he insisted on using Australian musicians.

"Mainly Tamworth musicians too, which creates a special individual sound and it's worked for us," he said.

"It is the sound plus the fact they know they are going to be looked after. Both myself and Shaz try so hard to do a lot of things for them, not only the music side, but advice."

At this point Ms Leigh interjects, saying Mr Butler is being humble.

"At the end of the day I think most people walk through our door to have Lindsay Butler produce their album, and I know that I'm no different," she said.

Mr Butler said traditional real country music was what he loved.

"And that's the way I'll always do it. I don't believe that winning a Golden Guitar necessarily makes a good country singer."
