The Coaching Apprenticeship Program is designed to introduce individuals into youth Ultimate in a low‑risk, high‑support way. Apprentices learn by observing and collaborating with experienced coaches while contributing meaningfully to the team.

Role Overview

The Coaching Apprentice role is perfect for individuals who want to explore coaching without the pressure of leading a team. Apprentices work alongside veteran coaches, gradually taking on responsibilities as their comfort and confidence grow.

This is a volunteer position, but Lindbergh Ultimate will reimburse the cost of your USA Ultimate Membership, Chaperone Certification and background check.

Coaching Apprentices may choose to work with the Lindbergh Girls, Lindbergh Boys, or—if interested—we can help connect you with another local high school program involved in the Saint Louis Ultimate League.

Baseline Expectations (Required)

Coaching Apprentices must:

• Be 21 or older

• Attend practices consistently to build rapport with players and coaches

• Complete USA Ultimate Chaperone requirements, including:

  • SafeSport training

  • Background check

• Participate in 1–2 pre‑season planning meetings (January–February)

• Have a basic understanding of Ultimate and a desire to continue learning

• Model Lindbergh Ultimate’s values of Character, Community, and Competition

• Communicate professionally with youth athletes and uphold Spirit of the Game

No previous playing experience is required—enthusiasm and willingness to learn are what matter most.

Nice-to-Have Skills (Optional)

These are not required but offer opportunities for deeper involvement:

• Ability to attend games and tournaments

• Ability to run drills or small-group activities independently

• Interest in helping plan practices or season structure

• Comfort working one‑on‑one with players on skill development

• Interest in pursuing USAU Coaching Certification (we can help guide you)

Time Commitment

• Pre‑season (Jan–Feb):

  • 1–2 planning meetings with the coaching staff

• Regular Season (mid‑Feb – early May):

  • Two practices per week, each about 2 hours

  • Practice usually occurs at some time between 3pm - 8pm; exact times TBD

• Games (March – April):

  • 1–2 games per week, typically on weekday evenings but can occur on weekends.

• Tournaments:

  • One out‑of‑state tournament in April (Indianapolis Invite)

  • Missouri State Championship tournament in May (typically first weekend of May)

This role is flexible—if you can’t attend everything, that’s okay. Clear communication is what matters.
