The Lincoln County Historical Society is welcoming you to participate in the emplacement of a time capsule at the Pioneer Museum in Hendricks, MN. The time capsule will be buried on July 4th, 2026 marking the 250th Birthday of our Nation and be uncovered on July 4th, 2076 on the 300th Birthday of our Nation.
We are asking that your organization, family, class, school, etc. gather small items that are unique to your organization and donate them to Pioneer Museum for the time capsule. Such items would include programs, pins, flyers, keychains, books, photos, rosters of members, a brief written history of your organization, etc. We are asking that you keep your items specific to your organization. When you have compiled your items, create a catalog of your items. The Museum will need two, one to give an overall catalog of the items that will be buried, and the other to be buried with your item collection detailing the historical significance of the items and noting the names of people on images.
Care of Items
Preservation of the items requires some attention to detail. Using acid free paper and handling photos and other objects with clean, dry, lotion-free hands. Use gloves if necessary. Fingerprints, dirt, and oils on photos make them deteriorate in storage. Try not using paper clips, staples, or rubber bands, as those will rust and deteriorate over time. Try to avoid using USB, CDs, or other electronic media devices as the technology to access them may not be readily available in 50 years.
Help the Time Capsule
Finally, we would ask that individual, groups, local businesses, or community organizations donate or sponsor a school, class, or youth organization by donation at least $100 for the Time Capsule. Your donation will purchase a watertight and airtight stainless steel capsule and provide you with a caplet for your organization that is watertight and airtight to hold your items with a mechanical seal.
The Time Capsule
There would be 200 individually sealed caplets that would go into a larger stainless steel capsule. The capsule (shown to the right) is 47” x 39” x 15” water and air tight, and weighs 188 lbs. Each Caplet (shown to the left) is 2.7” x 3.1” x 9.8” and is water and air tight with a mechanical seal.
