In Nebraska, two invasive/encroaching woody species of concern are eastern red cedar (Juniperus virginiana) and smooth sumac (rhus glabra). While native to Nebraska, these two species grow in abundance in Nebraska's forests and grasslands, in recently increasing numbers. I want to better understand where these species are most concentrated using remote sensing and how their presence impacts the ecosystem.
