Fact: Lightning often strikes the same place twice, especially if it's a tall, pointy, isolated object

There is no safe place outside when thunderstorms are in the area. If you hear thunder, you are likely within striking distance of the storm.
Lightning can strike without rain, it's called dry lightning and they are the lightning strikes that cause the most forest fires.
(Lightning that strikes the ground outside of a rain area is called a "bolt from the blue".)
