In the past decade, public media in North America has developed online platforms. However, what has been the contribution of public streaming platforms international availability to cultural diversity in the region and world-wide? The geographical expansion of platforms depends on their objectives, their operative costs, and content distribution rights. The slideshow below shows five types of internationalization identified here: 1) monetization, 2) connection with diaspora/migrants, 3) international dissemination, 4) unintended internationalization, and 5) geo-blocking of content in foreign territories. It also presents constrains and opportunities to favour platforms’ internationalization.
