In 2005 a member of the Rotary Clubs Water Projects Limited spotted a small article in a magazine, which advertised a water filter called “LifeStraw”. The article intrigued him, and he contacted the Danish manufacturer. The details contained in their reply encouraged him to show them to his Rotary Club, who decided to promote the LifeStraw, and do what they could to donate them to those in need of safe water.
The efforts of this Charity were increased when at the Millennium, the United Nations gave the world terrible news:
“The need for safe drinking water is denied to many people in this world. Every 15 seconds a child will die as a result of drinking unsafe water. We are committed by the year 2015 to provide this basic human right”
The target for this Charity remains the same, “As Rotarians we are committed to help all those in need. We consider that access to safe water is a basic human right and necessity; therefore our efforts and energies are focused on providing safe water wherever a need is identified”.
LifeStraw® is a portable water filter that effectively removes all bacteria and parasites responsible for causing common diarrhoeal diseases. LifeStraw® requires no electrical power or spare parts and can be carried around for easy access to safe and clean water.
