Manuscripts not included in the Survey

This section of the Website comprises a list of manuscripts that have been cited in studies devoted to illuminated Italian Books of Hours but which have been excluded from the Survey for various reasons:

- they are lacking illuminations.

- they are different devotional books which have sometimes described as Book of Hours.

-  they were not illuminated in Italy:  for example, the activity of the Master of the Brussels initials in Paris. His production there was carried out in French books, for French patrons, so it is not included in the Survey.

- they are books in print and not manuscripts.

- they are documented among the holdings of certain libraries, but were lost in dates preceding a photographic documentation of them.

Although they are not included in our Survey, it seems useful to provide a list, as they appear in the relevant bibliography. This should avoid having to check why they are not in the Survey.

It must also be noted that no illuminated printed books are cited in the Survey, for the moment, although in many cases the illuminators working in manuscripts and in printed books are the same. It is not possible to foresee adding illuminated printed books, for the time being, but this will be considered in the future.
