In conjunction with the American Library Association's Library Bill of Rights, it is the K-12 LMS's intent to ensure the delivery of the following within physical space of the library:
Students, faculty, and the public will be welcome to select materials from the library's collections. The staff will make appropriate suggestions or recommendations when asked.
Books, periodicals, and other reading materials will be provided for educational purposes and personal interest to all individuals who utilize the library services.
Materials housed in the library will represent all points of view on fictional pieces, biographical, historical references, and current events and will not be excluded because of the author's origin, race, ethnicity, background, gender, political views, personal views, or religion.
The librarian will welcome and encourage all teachers to use the space for interactive classroom activities, and will cooperate with staff to gather materials when needed for research and reference projects.
The librarian will remain unbiased on materials housed in the library and will purchase materials based on educational use, student requests, teacher recommendations, and intellectual freedom. Award winning materials will be given first consideration when purchasing.
The librarian shall follow the proper procedures if/when materials are questioned by students, faculty, and public, and will provide information to those seeking the material's removal from the library's collection. However, the American Library Association's Office for Intellectual Freedom (OIF) condemns censorship and works to ensure free access to information.
All technological equipment that is housed will be updated with the latest software programs. Information on Internet based websites and databases will be promoted and instructed. Library staff will be knowledgeable with the use of the equipment and will offer assistance to those seeking it.
