"What a school thinks about its library is a measure of what it feels about education."
~ Harold Howe ~
My school library media program provides students with hands-on research skills, physical access to print, non-print, and online materials, and instructional based literacy skills to ensure that students become effective users of ideas, information, and technology. My program is also an equal part of the school’s curriculum, promoting a great appreciation of literature, and creating life-long learning.
I am a master level, state certified K-12 school library media specialist (LMS) who supports the school's philosophy, mission, and goals, as well as the educational objectives of the Maine's Common Core Standards and Guiding Principles in which my library media program is connected to.
In addition, I perceive collaboration with classroom teachers to be of high importance and accommodates such partnerships within the library throughout the year on a flexible schedule. The collaboration that we complete is essential to students' learning and academic growth that meet the needs of the 21st century learner.
It is essential to student's learning and academic growth that the LMS be a part of their education as the library is the central hub of the school.
