Maintaining your hair extensions correctly is essential to preserving their quality, longevity, and flawless finish. With the right care routine, your extensions will remain soft, smooth, and beautifully blended whilst protecting and nourishing your natural hair.
Washing:
When washing your hair, always brush through gently beforehand to remove any tangles. Cleanse using professional, recommended products or a sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner, washing one to three times per week. Hair should always be washed in an upright position in the shower to avoid unnecessary tension on the bonds or wefts. After washing, ensure the hair is completely dried, as damp hair can lead to matting. Heat protection should always be applied before using any heated styling tools.
Brushing:
Brushing should be carried out with a professional hair extension brush designed specifically for extensions. Begin at the ends and work your way upwards slowly and carefully, avoiding excessive pulling. While brushing, it is important to support the bonds or wefts with your hand to minimise tension and protect both your natural hair and the extensions.
Day-to-day:
Day-to-day care plays a vital role in maintaining the integrity of your extensions. When styling with heat, temperatures should never exceed 180°C and heat protection must always be used. Extensions should be washed and fully dried after exercise or swimming. It is recommended not to wear extensions abroad, as exposure to heat, sun, salt water, and chlorine can reduce their lifespan. When using sunbeds, wrap the hair in a towel to protect the bonds. Before sleeping, secure the hair in a loose plait or braid to prevent tangling and snapping.
Treatments:
To keep your extensions nourished and healthy, a weekly conditioning treatment is highly recommended. Treatments should be applied to the mid-lengths and ends only, avoiding the roots and bonds. Lightweight hair oils may also be used sparingly on the ends to enhance shine and maintain softness without weighing the hair down.
