Thanks, Blackberry Creek for the lovely sunrise send off this morning! We will miss our house, and our kitty Spock - but we know our favorite cat-and-housesitter Kathryn will take good care of both! Spock is a silly cat and doesn't like many people - but luckily he has really taken to Kathryn. We are blessed to have her!

It's been a long time since I've been up here in June. Usually we come the week after July 4th.... it's already warm, 78 degrees today and partly sunny as we arrived. The docks aren't in yet! Makes it a bit tough to swim.... but it's beautiful nonetheless!

I'm not going to blog every day on this trip! It's just like being home for me - sometimes a whole lot of nothing goes on but it's all good because I'm AT WALLOON! Today, Mark and I enjoyed the deck and the view of the lake. It's been 18 years and we're still sweethearts! True partners in this life we love so much.

The Sladek family arrived at midnight - and we packed in a full day of fun and sun and boating!

Riley got a bump on the head so I got to spend a lot of time with Ava in the late afternoon/evening. What a blessing she is! Six and a half going on 30!

We went for a long walk down the road....
Ava said - "Nana! There a mountain! Let me climb it..." It was a berm on the side of the road...

Memories are in the midst of being made at Walloon Lake! The pontoon boat was just the right size for us and we went all over Walloon! Up the west arm to swim at the sandbar, over to a good fishing spot, (not much patience for fishing though!) and back to another swimming spot at a different sand bar.

Walloon over the 4th of July week is.....CRAZY! This is the view from Coveyou Farm Stand. This is the north arm of Walloon Lake in the haze of 90 degree days!

Today we swam and played in the lake and then the girls and I made our favorite summer pie - triple berry deliciousness! Then we went to dinner at Mountainside Grille in Boyne Falls for fish fry. It was OK but seriously, no air conditioning to be found in the whole place! Super hot this week and NO A/C?! UGH Not fun to eat with the heat.

My little 4th of July patriots! Ava and Riley have loved their time at the lake with us. I'm so sad to see them have to leave!

I have to say....KUDOS to Walloon Lake Village for the amazing fireworks show! I can not believe what a great show it was, and all from our yard! Just beautiful fireworks over Walloon Lake. Take a look!

Next up - lunar eclipse. Maybe. Sort of. This was a penumbral lunar eclipse and was very faint. I didn't really notice it eclipsing at all, but what I did notice was that the "Man in the Moon" was more pronounced and obvious. Perhaps that was the shadow we were supposed to see. No clue really but the moon was full and beautiful!
Next up - lunar eclipse. Maybe. Sort of. This was a penumbral lunar eclipse and was very faint. I've spent so many years working to keep the mood "up" when people travel great distances for a phenomena that then doesn't appear. It has been my experience that, if you seek a celestial phenomenon, some magic will happen in your life, whether it is the phenomenon itself, or something else, even at some other time~such striving is ALWAYS noted and rewarded by the natural world. It knows us more than we know ourselves. Thinking I might use this for this week's radio segment, since, yeah, there's an active comet and gaseous planets coming to opposition, but no big thrillers that we are wont to chase~meteor showers, northern lights, etc etc. Just the "quiet nights of quiet stars"... - Mary Stewart Adams

Started the day by going to e-church and then an easy breakfast of scrambled eggs with wasabi microgreens, bacon, and and English muffin.

Spent the morning editing fireworks photos and videos and made a timelapse. I was invited to Liz and Dennis's dock for swimming and visiting - which I did readily! It was a beautiful day followed by a beautiful evening sunset cruise. After a couple phone calls with Andrew to figure out the best fishing spots, depths, tackle, etc. Dennis threw in a couple of lines. Not fifteen minutes later he had a very nice walleye! No net - no stringer - so we had a bucket fish!

I got to see my #solarsister Julie this afternoon! We had a nice lunch together here at the cottage and chatted for a while. She was on her way home so couldn't stay too long. WE NEED MORE TIME Jules! Maybe in a couple weeks.

After Julie left, I spent a quiet afternoon reading and alternating between air conditioning and sitting in front of the fan. SOOOOOO hot today!

My friends Liz and Dennis called and invited me on a boat ride again so YEESSSS I love it! Fishing wasn't happening but not for lack of trying. Much fun chatting and enjoying the beauty of the breeze on the lake that morphed into a gorgeous night sky. I love experiencing the night from sunset all the way through the twilight phases and to the rise of the barely full moon.

I got to see and photograph the comet Neowise this morning! A first for me. This is a fascinating comet that is nearly 5 kilometers in diameter and has already looped around the sun and it on it's way back out of the solar system. Can you see it in the first, zoomed out photo? It's right above the tree on the left. I zoomed in (below left) and circled it in yellow (below right). Amazing that we can see it without a telescope!

Rain for the first day since we arrived 2 weeks ago! Woke up at 5 am to thunder and lightning and no power. It didn't last long, but still - love sleeping at Walloon with the rain!

Andrew went fishing early and caught several smallmouth bass. Midday fishing was experimental, and he didn't get anything. I went to the Boyne City Farmer's Market and got all the delicious fresh fruits and veggies!
