Shao-Jiun Yang (James)
James was born in 1998 in Kaohsiung and grew up in the Zuoying District. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering with a minor in Chemistry at National Taiwan University in Taipei, where his undergraduate research focused on the synthesis and fabrication of peptide-based polymeric materials under the supervision of Prof. Wei-Fang Su and Prof. Chao-Tsen Chen. In 2021, he moved to the United States to pursue graduate research at Texas A&M University with Prof. Lei Fang, working on the synthesis of conjugated ladder polymers, a unique class of macromolecules with fused-ring polycyclic aromatic backbones. After defending his Ph.D. dissertation in 2025, he joined Prof. Liao’s research group as a short-term intern. He will begin his postdoctoral position with Prof. Lei Fang at Yongjiang Laboratory in Ningbo, China, starting in 2026.
In his free time, he enjoys sketching, exercising—including badminton and softball—and traveling. He was a school athlete and a fast-pitch softball pitcher at National Taiwan University. During his graduate studies abroad, he traveled extensively across the United States and also visited Canada, Mexico, and Peru.
