The krystallosaur was a large species of saltwater crocodilians found along the coast of Tempest and Jade in Frauji. These hypercarnivores were 7 meters long and fed on all manner of fish, aquatic mammals, and coastal birds, along with the occasional unlucky reef hunter. The most distinctive aspect of krystallosaurs was their namesake camouflage, as they blended in with the white quartz beaches of their native habitat. Their white scales and quartz-like growths on their back allowed them to seamlessly conceal themselves both on land and on the ocean floor, lying motionless and ready to spring upon any unobservant prey. Krystallosaurs were also observed killing smaller prey and using their carcasses as bait to attract larger meals.Â
The krystallosaur was one of the main reasons Eavon colonists were prevented from settling along the Frauji coast, as their camouflage and unpredictable nature made the beasts a constant hazard to both public safety and fishing practices with around 50 reported fatalities annually. As international trade demanded ports in these regions, Confederation officials formed the Rational Citizen Relocation Commission (2-RC), a government organization focused on the repositioning of natural phenomena for the benefit of colonization efforts. The 2-RC relocated several hundred krystallosaurs in key settlement positions to isolated islands and zoological facilities, dispersing the population further into new habitats. One island became home to the Kryzer, a descendant branch of krystallosaurs that quickly dominated their new island home, pushing out all its natural predators, and growing to unprecedented levels of size and aggression. Kryzer Island was officially restricted unless given explicit permission by the Confederation Institute of Peoples & Ecologies for research expeditions. The 2-RC would also become a controversial government branch, overreaching across the entire planet and causing major ecological damage that would inevitably be covered up.
