The himbe is a species of giant rhino beetle, about the size of an average automobile, native to the Trinity and Casdon regions of Frauji. With a lifespan of only 7 trisolars on average, these animals grow and mature rapidly. Mother himbe will construct nests out of condensed ash and plant fiber, but will only lay one egg at a time. These eggs hatch a larval himbe after only three weeks, at which point the mother will be ready to lay another egg, young himbe able to become self-sufficient after two months. Himbe feed on fruit and sap from the dusty molten bloom tree, but they are also known to have a liking for subterranean fungi and will venture into volcanic caves for it. Himbe have large wings that fold out from underneath their carapace, allowing himbe to fly up to 80 kph.
The himbe have been domesticated by the Kailee Zhāng for millenia, acting as hunting mounts and life-bonded companions. In order to bond with a himbe, one must be present for its hatching from its egg, and imprint upon it at birth. Once they have grown old enough, they can be ridden by the one they were imprinted by and rarely let anyone else ride upon them.
As Eavons began to populate Frauji, himbe were popular livestock among ranchers. While himbe are useful for rapid transportation, they can only travel short distances before becoming exhausted and requiring rest and nourishment. Before the advent of mechanical transportation, himbe were ridden by traders, adventurers, hunters, and explorers across the Confederation and by all manner of Peoples. Himbe were even used during the Solstice War by the Silver Lining, although their susceptibility to exhaustion limited sustained battlefield deployment.
