The glowl is a species of nocturnal, bio-luminescent bats that live in deep caves across Trinity. They are exceptionally large, with wingspans of over 3 meters. Despite their considerable size, glowl fly remarkably quietly and precisely. The green glow of their body is caused by millions of tiny micro-organisms swimming in their bloodstream, which emit light when the nervous system of the glowl activates them during flight and while hunting. The glow is used to lure in animals, though this tactic does not work that well on more intelligent creatures such as Zhāng and Eavons. Their guano also fertilizes subterranean fungal forests which are invaluable food sources for numerous cave organisms.
Local Zhāng tribes believe the glowl to be a nuisance rather than a worthy opponent, as glowl are highly skittish around members of the 44 Peoples and rarely attack them. Glowl are however bold enough to swipe and steal kills made by Zhāng before the warriors have a chance to claim them. The glowl will stalk and follow hunters and wait for them to take down an animal, the warriors often aware of their unwanted visitor and having to continually scare it away to prevent the inevitable theft.
