I have studied at the University of Victoria for five years. Throughout this time, I've learned classroom management skills, how to run individual and group activities, and how to adapt games for different skill levels and abilities.
I have also had the opportunity to coach middle school soccer, as well as a 4 lesson field experience in a middle school physical education class.
From April 29th to May 10th I will have a two week practicum at Arbutus Middle School. During these two weeks I will have the opportunity to co-develop and co-teach lessons for both Physical Health Education and French in a grade 8 French Immersion classroom. I am extremely excited to get the chance to be in this type of classroom setting. Along with creating connections with students and staff, I am looking forward to putting all of what I have learned throughout my education, and learning who I truly am as an educator.
I have aspired to be a Physical Health Education teacher due to my passion for physical activity and sports. As I progressed through my PHE classes, I have shifted this focus creating a space where students can not only learn skill for certain sports, but also learn to understand how these sports work, and how to keep themselves healthy through approachable types of physical activity and proper nutrition.
Attached are examples of Volleyball Lesson Plans.
These lesson plans were developed with the Teaching Games for Understanding philosophy created by Bunker & Thorpe (1985)
I chose originally chose to pursue French as a teachable due to doing my schooling through British Columbia's French Immersion program. After taking classes in university , I began to develop a greater appreciation of the language, as well as French speaking cultures. French has given me the opportunity to create goals both professionally, and how I would like to design a french class and material I can present to students, as well as personally and how I want to improve my own French skills through travel and cultural exposure.
The following is a lesson plan on the conditional verb tense for a French class and a short video of me presenting the concept.
