Growing up in the diverse city of Miami as a dual citizen and the daughter of an immigrant from Moldova, I have always resonated with the value of global citizenship. I believe that collective change begins with embracing our diversity and understanding our interconnectedness as humans which starts right here at Florida International University. This belief has encouraged me to play an active role in the Global Learning program where I've had the opportunity to learn from my peers' unique experiences while also sharing my own, creating a space of mutual understanding and growth. As a Jewish woman, I find it essential to not only explore my own cultural identity but also to share it with others, celebrating our multiculturalism and transcending national, cultural, and religious boundaries. Additionally, as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I understand the importance of advocacy and representation, and I strive to create inclusive spaces where people from all walks of life can be heard, valued, and supported.
My passion for advocacy extends to my commitment to environmental sustainability. Growing up in South Florida, I witnessed firsthand the impacts of climate change and the environmental challenges facing vulnerable communities, which has fueled my dedication to fighting for policies that prioritize environmental justice. I strongly believe that the fight for human rights and the fight for environmental protection are inherently connected, as marginalized communities often bear the brunt of both social and environmental injustices. This belief drives my work toward advocating for policies that not only address climate change but also promote equity and resilience for all people, regardless of their background or identity.
Overall, my experiences at Global Learning have reinforced my commitment to global citizenship and my resolve to work toward a more inclusive, sustainable, and equitable world. Motivated by my belief in the interconnectedness of all people and the environment, I am eager to continue exploring how diverse cultures, sustainable practices, and global cooperation can address the challenges we face as a global community. Through my participation in the Global Learning program, I have not only expanded my academic knowledge but also developed a profound appreciation for the value of working across cultural boundaries. The courses and events that I've participated in have reinforced my commitment to driving positive change, both within my local community and on a global scale.
