Spring - Week 8 (3/4/20):

You will have transcripts and course registration packets in your mailbox in the main office by today for advisory on Wed March 4th.

The course registration process is starting Wednesday! Counseling Dept wanted to pass along some information so you can be as ready as possible to get your advisory students started in the process!

As questions come up on these, this is where the counselor or core content teacher can assist in the recommendations.

A few key points:

· Remember that students need to get teacher approval to register for an advanced, AP, or honors class (for AP World History we tell students to get approval from their 9^th grade English teacher as they know their reading and writing abilities as this is indicative of their potential success in the AP course).

· If students ask questions and you are unsure of the answer, please refer them up to counseling or to the teacher they currently have in that content area (math question refer to their math teacher, science to science, etc).

· The students time spent on this task in advisory is imperative to the success of the processes. The counselors will help students with questions when we sit with them to input the requests, but having these packets completed makes this process flow smoothly.

· Students will need to consult with their parents on the courses they are selecting and have their parents sign on the bottom of the course request form before they meet with their counselor for input.

The timeline is:

March 4^th Advisory – Presentation of transcripts andcompleting the course registration packet

Students will then be coming up to the Counseling Office to have their course requests inputted from their completed registration packets:

March 9th – March 24^th through the English Dept

*Next week begins registration and students will be receiving their 2020/21 registration form to fill out.

Week Seventeen (12/11/19):

PLEASE WATCH THE VIDEO BEFORE ADVISORY SO YOU HAVE AN IDEA OF THE CONTENT AHEAD OF TIME

Good Morning LHS. Below is a link for a video and a guided discussion that follows chronologically the video. Watch the video fully before going into worksheet; it kills the intent if you keep stopping to discuss. This should be a teacher led class discussion. They don't have to write down answers but can if they want.

Week Sixteen (12/4/19):

Have students log in to their California Colleges Accounts ( See plans from 10/23 when they created their accounts and completed Part 1).
Have students work on Part II. This is an independent activity for the students.
If any can move onto Part III that would be great, but this sections seems like it will take the 20 minutes to complete, or at least get started.

Week Fifteen (11/20/19):

Look at students' grades and have individual conferences with students about their Ds and Fs
Encourage students to talk to their teachers before the break about possible strategies to bring up their grades

Week Thirteen (11/06/19):

PLUS Student Survey: Please write or show the link below on the board and have students take the survey.
Script: Every month the PLUS team is dedicated to issuing a survey to students to gain a better understanding of the issues and challenges faced on campus. Please take the survey and be a part of your voice being heard! These surveys are anonymous so don’t worry, be as honest as you like. Our goal is to bring the resources and support on our campus, and these surveys are a tool to help us understand what LHS students are facing.

After survey, please look at previous weeks' lessons and make sure students have accounts and are ready for next week's California Colleges Lesson plan.

Week Twelve (10/30/19):

Teachers,

Please project the linked doc as a visual support for what you will do today (Teacher Resource)
Part 1: Introduction-Bell Work as a teacher led discussion (maybe a word web on the white board for everyone to add their personalities) and then have students login to their California Colleges account from last week and have them navigate the needed items.

Week Eleven (10/23/19):

Students will be registering on the California Colleges Website. (Click here for teacher instructions)

Students can use their own personal devices to register for this site.

Students will be taking the PSAT

Pick up your materials from the testing room
Proctor the PSAT and then return materials at the beginning of lunch

Finish PSAT Pre-registration and/or have absent students finish pre-registration.

Week Six (9/18/19):

Career Pathways: Talk to your students about the pathway that you took to become a teacher. Did you go start at a JC? Go straight to a 4 year? Is this your 2nd career? All of us took different paths to where we are now. Discuss this with your students.
Show video to the right that features some of our former students and the path that they are on for their careers.

Week Five (9/11/19):

Play the video to the right while students read along on their handout and reflect on the questions on the right hand side of the page. Discuss this concept with students and how it applies in both their personal and academic lives

Week Two (8/21/19):

Promote ASB Spirit Days for next week (Teacher Resource)
Graduation Check: Have students fill out a graduation check handout while reviewing their transcripts.
