Local government units (LGUs), particularly those with low risk of COVID-19 infection and where tourism is a significant industry, are instructed to strengthen their local tourism industry in accordance with the DILG Advisory, dated July 16, 2020, on Strengthening the Local Tourism Industry for Economic Recovery.
One of the recommendations made for local government units (LGUs) is to improve their adherence to the Tourism Act of 2009 through the creation, execution, monitoring, and updating of their tourism development plans in collaboration with the Department of Tourism (DOT), as well as compliance with federal laws and regulations regarding the promotion of local tourism.
All DILG Directors and the BARMM Minister for Local Government are required to report on the state of local tourism in their respective regions of responsibility, specifically including any recent efforts and implementation plans for the promotion of tourism in the relevant LGUs.
