Here you will find answers to questions about how IP address analysis works, how accurate the data is, and how we ensure your privacy. We'll explain why the service detects a VPN, and how to distinguish a real user from a bot or proxy.
An IP address is a unique number that is assigned to your computer, smartphone, or any other device for working on the network. It can be compared to the postal address at home — it is needed so that the data from the Internet gets to you. You can use this address to roughly determine your location and find out which Internet provider is serving you.
ASN (Autonomous System Number) is the identifier of an autonomous system. In simple words, this is the number of a large network owned by one organization, for example, an Internet service provider, a large company, or a hosting provider. Knowing the ASN, we can tell for sure who exactly provides you with access to the Internet — a home provider or, for example, a data center where VPNs and proxies often work.
Tor is a network of servers that allows you to access the Internet anonymously. Your traffic passes through several random computers in different countries before reaching the final site. This greatly confuses the tracks, and it gives the impression that you are entering from a different point. lgeoip is able to identify IP addresses that are exit nodes of the Tor network.
We maintain our own database, which is constantly and automatically updated. It contains networks (ASNs) of more than 140 hosting providers and data centers, through which commercial VPN services and proxies usually operate. If the IP address belongs to such a network, the system marks it as an anonymizer. We also compare your time zone with the time zone of the IP address - their discrepancy often indicates the use of a VPN.
No, privacy is our priority. We do not keep a history of your checks. Your IP address is processed in real time only to produce a result, and is immediately deleted. We do not write logs to yandex. disk and do not use cookies for tracking.
Unfortunately, there is not and will not be a public API. The project is non-commercial and works on a voluntary basis using the limited resources of the author. To avoid unnecessary technical and administrative burden, direct access to the server is limited. Interaction is possible only through the official interface on GitHub Pages.
Yes, there are plans to introduce ✦lgeoAI in the future. Artificial intelligence will help to analyze traffic even more accurately, minimize false positives and identify even complex anonymizer chains, making the analysis even more perfect.
