K-12 School Leaders and Adminstrators

Supporting students who identify as LGBTQ+ is a task that will take purposeful change at the individual, classroom, school, district, state, and national levels. Schools do not operate within a vacuum, and thus the larger influences at work in the broader context of society are also at play in schools. The trends of stigmatization, exclusion, and violence that affect LGBTQ+ individuals in the community at large are often replicated and perpetuated in school systems.

Efforts to combat these forces in society in general are essential, but because of the specific vulnerabilities associated with adolescence it is especially necessary to focus on our schools and how we can make them more inclusive and safe spaces for sexual and gender minority youths.
