MY INVOLVEMENT AND IMPACT

INSHAPE EXPERIENCE

P443 INShape IUPUI Personal Training

My INShape experience is something I will remember forever. For the first time, I took on the role of being a student personal trainer for an IUPUI staff member for a total of 8 weeks. My education in exercise science over the years gave me an opportunity to practice creating specific workout programs for my client's needs. Throughout my INShape experience, I learned how to create a fun environment, progress, adapt, and communicate with my client. I continue to learn more about myself as a personal trainer and enjoy every aspect of it.

I experienced many significant learning moments with my client, but there was one instance that stuck out the most. My client gained confidence in running after only weeks of training with treadmill intervals. For example, she completed running intervals without stopping nor holding onto the side handles on the treadmill by week 5. This also gave me some confidence as a personal trainer because it proved that my motivational skills and training plans for her were working. It is such an amazing feeling knowing that I am able to help set and reach goals for others.

There are 6 words that I chose for reflection throughout this INShape experience; educational, gratifying, progressive, modification, entertaining, and interesting. I chose these words because I felt that they reflected how each week of my INShape experience went. The experience was educational because both my client and I were able to take away some things from each session. I felt very gracious that I was able to have an opportunity to help someone reach their goals each week. By reaching these goals, we successfully progressed each week, while keeping in mind some modifications. Finally, it was very entertaining and interesting each week working with a client who has such great determination and outspoken personality.
