Teaching Assistantships

For the past four years at the University of Toronto, I've taught a variety of tutorials – weekly or twice-weekly sessions involving content lessons, student presentations, and quizzes and tests, depending on the course – ranging in size between 2040 students. I've also graded for upper-year linguistics courses and tutored undergraduate students in sociolinguistics. For a complete list of courses, see my CV.

Pedagogical development

In addition to my departmental TAing and course instructorship positions, I'm also greatly interested in linguistics pedagogy.

From 2019 to 2022, I served as a Lead TA for Innovations in Linguistic Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in the Linguistics Curriculum and Beyond, a pedagogical initiative in the department of Linguistics. For this project, in conjunction with my colleague Pocholo Umbal and our faculty mentor Dr. Nathan Sanders, I have collaborated with numerous faculty (in linguistics and elsewhere) and course TAs on creating more equitable and affirming linguistics curriculum and classroom environments. We have presented on our work on this project in a number of venues; if you would like more information that would be supportive to a similar initiative at your own university, please get in touch!

I am also actively cultivating my teaching philosophy, my pedagogical knowledge base, and upgrading my teaching and facilitation skills. I hold a certificate in Community-Engaged Learning from the University of Toronto, and regularly take development courses through UofT's Centre for Teaching Support and Innovation to ensure that I'm providing as equitable, engaging, and accessible an experience for my students as possible.
