A place for neighbors to feed each other.

Who we are

The Lewisburg Little Free Pantry began in May 2020 in response to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was widely reported in local and national news that many people were losing their jobs and were facing increasing food insecurity. In the face of insurmountable need and suffering, one neighbor decided to at least do one small thing: put out food for anyone who needed it.

The neighborhood response was overwhelming. Almost immediately, anonymous and not-so-anonymous neighbors began bringing food of all kinds to share. In fact, the Pantry has collected so much food that we are often able to support other local organizations as well.

We all share the same belief: a community does not allow its neighbors to be hungry.

Lewisburg, PA Little Free Pantry, Nov 2020.

When the pantry first began, it was small -- just a single bookcase. But then neighbors started to bring food to share! So we added more space and a sign, started a Facebook page, and eventually set up this webpage.

We also started working with the amazing folks at the Union County Food Hub. They also provided us with invaluable advice on how to manage our inventory and better share our resources with the community.

It became clear that the pantry needed better protection from the elements (other than the organizers running out to tarp it every time it rained!). Also, we were receiving more food, and wanted a space to share it all!

In July 2021, Mark "Hutch" Hutchison generously donated time, materials, and expertise to build us a real pantry. Some little helpers then painted it for us!

Today, the Lewisburg Little Free Pantry and Library offers food for the body and mind. Drop by and get what you need, anytime!
