Recreation

The images in this section of the exhibit offer a glimpse of the ways people in Montgomery County relaxed and entertained themselves during the first half of the 20th century.

Recreation and leisure time activities included playing sports, days at the beach, going on picnics, camping and fishing, canoeing on the river, gardening in the backyard, spending time at the fair, going for a Sunday drive or heading out on a vacation.

Cameras were also becoming more commonly used by the young people, and lifelong avid photographer Lewis Reed never missed a chance for a photo-op on his recreational outings with friends and family. Travel back in time to the early 1900s for some fun in the Montgomery County sun.
