Recently, the National Institute of Mental Health (2023) assessed two groups of adolescents, one before the COVID-19 pandemic and the second more recently after the Covid-19 pandemic. “Compared to the pre-pandemic group, adolescents assessed after the pandemic shutdowns reported more symptoms of anxiety and depression and greater internalizing problems” (NIMH, 2023). Locally, the communities of Ahwatukee and Chandler endured the tragic loss of two youth in events related to mental health and teen violence. These events are not an anomaly. There is a growing imperative to enact mental health responsiveness in our daily lives and foster it among community youth. Join us in our campaign to nurture self-care and wellness through loving, compassionate messaging and increased access to youth activities.
