On the morning of September 16, 2025, at the National Assembly House, the Politburo and the Party Secretariat convened a national conference to disseminate and implement four key resolutions on international integration, energy security, education and training, and public healthcare. The event was attended by General Secretary Tô Lâm, President Lương Cường, Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính, National Assembly Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn, along with Party and State leaders, former leaders, and more than 1.2 million Party members connected nationwide. At the exhibition booth showcasing the scientific and technological capacity and educational highlights of VNU, VNU’s President Hoàng Minh Sơn introduced to General Secretary Tô Lâm the university’s cutting-edge R&D products. He emphasized VNU’s strengths in combining fundamental and applied research, as well as its ability to transfer and commercialize technology in service of national priority tasks.

On August 28–31, 2025, the National Exhibition Center hosted the opening of the exhibition “80 Years of Independence – Freedom – Happiness” marking the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (September 2). The event was attended by Party General Secretary Tô Lâm, Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính, National Assembly Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn, former Party and State leaders, members of the Politburo, the Party Central Committee, government ministries, diplomatic missions, international organizations, and enterprises. At the VNU-CRES booth, Politburo member and Hanoi Party Secretary Bùi Thị Minh Hoài, together with Central Committee member, Vice Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee and Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Trần Sỹ Thanh, visited the exhibition of flagship S&T products.

On July 4, 2025, Dr. Le Van Giang held a working session with Prof. M. Fujishige from Shinshu University, Japan, to discuss a collaborative research project between Dr. Giang’s team and Prof. Endo’s group at Shinshu University. The project focuses on the development of a novel RO based point of use water purification technology that operates without pumps or electricity, enabling 24/7 continuous filtration. Key advantages include over 50% reduction in wastewater, a compact design weighing only 1.5 kg, and a clean water output of 60 liters per hour, suitable for household drinking water needs. Notably, the system is expected to cost nearly half the price of conventional RO machines on the market. A major breakthrough of the technology is its ability to effectively remove PFAS compounds and residual chlorine species, addressing pressing public health concerns. The two research groups are currently working toward scaling up production and commercializing the product in the near future.

On June 18, 2025, We sincerely thank the VNU-Center for Enabling Startups and Knowledge Transfer, for nominating our research group's environmental treatment technology to Bac Ninh Province. We were fortunate to be selected as the first project to present before Mr. Vuong Quoc Tuan, Chairman of the Bac Ninh People's Committee, along with leaders of various departments, agencies, and dozens of enterprises and companies in the province. Ultimately, the project was honored to be selected for an investment cooperation agreement with the People's Committee of Bac Ninh Province, representing outstanding technological and start-up projects in 2025.

On June 16, 2025, We sincerely thank the representatives of the Department of Science and Technology of Quang Ngai Province for their visit and working session with the Central Institute for Natural Resources and Environmental Studies. During the visit, the delegation was introduced to practical models, including the CDI drinking water treatment project in Phu Tho Province and the swine wastewater treatment model in Son Tay Town. The delegation highly appreciated these scientific and technological applications and commissioned several key projects to the research team. This demonstrates the trust of local authorities in VNU’s research capacity and affirms its pioneering role in innovation and technology transfer to local communities.

On May 16, 2025, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Bao Son, Vice President of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and Professor Dr. Tran Thi Thanh Tu visited the CRES technology display model at the National Conference on Science and Technology.

On May 16, 2025, in celebration of Vietnam Science and Technology Day, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung and Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Manh Dung visited the waste treatment and resource recovery technology model developed by the Central Institute for Natural Resources and Environmental Studies, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

On May 7, 2025, a delegation from Brown University visited and collaborated with scientists from the research group on resource recovery and sustainable energy regeneration. 

On May 6, 2025, Dr. Le Van Giang was invited by the People's Committee of Cao Bang Province to serve as a reviewer for a project focused on the treatment of vermicelli wastewater in local craft villages.

On April 17, 2025, a delegation led by Dr. Ya Vinh from Tamkang University, Taiwan visited and held a working session at the VNU-Sustainable Energy and Resource Recovery Group, hosted by Dr. Le Van Giang. During this session, both research teams presented their strengths and reached an agreement to collaborate on several potential projects in the fields of energy and resources.

On April 15, 2025, Dr. Luu The Anh met with professors, scientists, and business representatives to discuss Vietnam’s water security and the development of technologies addressing current challenges in wastewater treatment.

On April 8, 2025, Dr. Le Van Giang visited and met with Prof. Laurent El Ghaoui, Dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science, Dr. Phung Thi Viet Bac, Director of Research, and Assistant Prof. Ahmad Hajjar of the College of Engineering and Computer Science. During the visit, both parties agreed to collaborate on scientific projects, leveraging the existing potential of both institutions, with a focus on comprehensive initiatives related to the recovery and reuse of materials from used lithium batteries.

On March 28, 2025, a delegation from Beijing Normal University and the University of Science and Technology Beijing visited and collaborated with scientists from the research group on resource recovery and sustainable energy regeneration. The meeting was attended by Associate Professor Luu The Anh, Director of the VNU-CRES.

On March 21, 2025, GRG successfully defended the VNU project on developing a technological process for recovering valuable metals (Co, Ni, Li) from spent Li-ion batteries.

On February 20, 2025, an exchange and collaboration between two strong research groups at Vietnam National University will focus on developing new, interdisciplinary research directions in the field of semiconductor materials.

On February 5, 2025, Dr. Le Van Giang successfully defended his project proposal "Recovery of Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium from Swine Wastewater using Fluidized-Bed Homogeneous Crystallization for Application as Slow-release Fertilizers in Vietnam" phase 2 sponsored by the Nanyang Environmental and Water Research Institute at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

On January 16, 2025, Prof. Dr. Richard D. Webster, Director of the Nanyang Environmental and Water Research Institute at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and his team visited and worked with the VNU-CRES. The delegation was welcomed by Prof. Dr. Luu The Anh, Director General of the VNU-CRES.

On January 15, 2025, Dr. Le Van Giang hosted Prof. Dr. Richard D. Webster, Director of the Nanyang Environmental and Water Research Institute at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and his team for a tour of the Trang An World Heritage Complex in Ninh Binh Province.

On January 14, 2025, Prof. Dr. Luu The Anh, Director of the VNU-CRES, and Dr. Le Van Giang, Head of the Laboratory and Environmental Analysis, met with Prof. Dr. Richard D. Webster, Director of the Nanyang Environmental and Water Research Institute at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. The meeting focused on discussing research collaborations and joint project implementation between the two institutions in 2025.

On December 30, 2024, Dr. Le Van Giang received a Postdoctoral Scholarship Certificate funded by the Vingroup Innovation Foundation, Institute of Big Data.

On December 25, 2024, Dr. Le Van Giang met with professors from the University of Science and Technology Beijing and Beijing Normal University to discuss a collaborative project under the protocol agreement between the governments of China and Vietnam for the 2025–2028 period.

On December 20, 2024, Dr. Le Van Giang attended the 2024 year-end review conference for research institutes under Vietnam National University, Hanoi. The conference aimed to evaluate achievements over the past year and outline tasks for the upcoming phase.

On December 20, 2024, Dr. Le Van Giang received a postdoctoral scholarship recognizing outstanding scientists nationwide, funded by the Vingroup Innovation Foundation – VinIF, Institute of Big Data.

On December 19, 2024, Dr. Le Van Giang met with staff from the the University of Sydney Vietnam Institute, Australia, who visited for a tour and to discuss potential research collaborations based on the strengths of both institutions.

On December 16, 2024, Dr. Le Van Giang, in collaboration with School of Management and Business, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, successfully organized a public lecture presented by Professor Morinobu Endo from Shinshu University, Japan.

On December 11, 2024, Dr. Le Van Giang welcomed a delegation from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) for a visit to the lab and to view the carbon recovery and conversion model.

On November 25, 2024, PhD candidate Nguyen Gia Cuong successfully defended four specialized topics in the doctoral program under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Luu The Anh and Dr. Le Van Giang. The defense committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Lai Vinh Cam, with Dr. Duong Thi Lim from the Institute of Geography, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, serving as the reviewer.

On November 14, 2024, Dr. Le Van Giang, the project leader, reported the results of the "Application of Capacitive Deionization Technology for Drinking Water Treatment in Several Schools in Phu Tho province." The seminar was chaired by Prof. Dr. Bui Ngoc Quy, Deputy Director of the VNU-CRES, who summarized the key points of the project. The event also saw the participation of representatives from four schools in Lam Thao and Thanh Son districts, where the project model was implemented.

On November 5-8, 2024, Dr. Le Van Giang attended and delivered a keynote presentation at the 2024 International Conference on Resource Sustainability (icRS 2024) held in Bangkok, Thailand.

On November 7, 2024, congratulations to Ms. Nguyen Ai Quynh for successfully completing the presentation on "Enhancing Lithium Recovery as Lithium Phosphate from Lithium-containing Wastewater Using Fluidized Bed Crystallization Technology" at the 2024 International Conference on Resource Sustainability (icRS 2024) held in Bangkok, Thailand. 

On October 25, 2024, Dr. Le Van Giang successfully defended the project on "Application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Monitoring and Warning of Surface Water Quality for Aquaculture in Can Tho City," commissioned by the Department of Science and Technology of Can Tho City.

On October 21, 2024, at the Laboratory and Environmental Analysis, the leadership team of the VNU-CRES, including Prof. Dr. Luu The Anh, Director General, Prof. Dr. Bui Ngoc Quy, Deputy Director, and Dr. Le Van Giang, met with the leadership of IUCN Vietnam to discuss collaboration opportunities in the fields of Conservation and Biodiversity.

On October 3, 2024, Dr. Le Van Giang was invited as a speaker at the Joint Funding Scheme for Research and Innovation between Southeast Asia and Europe (JFS) program, with the topic "Recovery of Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium from Swine Wastewater using Fluidized-Bed Homogeneous Crystallization for Application as Slow-release Fertilizers in Vietnam."

On September 27, 2024, Dr. Le Van Giang successfully defended the project on "Recovery of Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium from Swine Wastewater using Fluidized-Bed Homogeneous Crystallization for Application as Slow-release Fertilizers in Vietnam" funded by the Nanyang Environmental and Water Research Institute at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

On August 29, 2024, Ms. Nguyen Ai Quynh, on behalf of the Strong Research Group, received the Intellectual Property Certificate at the "Connecting Scientists and Research Groups with Enterprises" program organized by the enter for Enabling Startups and Knowledge Transfer, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Viet Nam.

On August 22, 2024, Dr. Le Van Giang held an online meeting with the leadership team of the Department of Science and Technology of Cao Bang Province to provide scientific and technological consultation on wastewater pollution treatment in the province.

On August 16, 2024, Nguyen Ai Quynh completed the technical exchange period at Cheng Shiu University, Taiwan.

On August 8, 2024, a delegation led by Prof. Dr. Nidal and his team from Vin-University visited and held a working session at the VNU-Sustainable Energy and Resource Recovery Group, hosted by Dr. Le Van Giang. During this session, both research teams presented their strengths and reached an agreement to collaborate on several potential projects in the fields of energy and resources.

On July 19, 2024, the National Assembly Television conducted an interview and published an article about the scientific and technological achievements of the Strong Research Group on Resource Recovery and Sustainable Energy Regeneration. The interview was conducted with Prof. Dr. Luu The Anh, Director General, and Dr. Le Van Giang, Head of the Department.

On July 18, 2024, representatives from DAEHAN E&C, South Korea, including Regional Director Mr. John Yoon and his colleagues, visited and held a meeting with CRES. The delegation was received by Prof. Dr. Luu The Anh, Director General, and Dr. Le Van Giang, Head of the Laboratory and Environmental Analysis.

On July 15, 2024, Prof. Dr. Masatsugu Fujishige from Shinshu University, Japan, visited and held a meeting with the VNU-Sustainable Energy and Resource Recovery Group, chaired by Dr. Le Van Giang. The discussion focused on the potential collaboration in research on applying Reverse Osmosis technology to remove non-biodegradable organic compounds from drinking water in Viet Nam.

On July 2, 2024, a progress report on the research of PhD candidate Nguyen Truong Huynh and researcher Nguyen Thi Xuan Hong was presented.

On June 20, 2024, researcher Nguyen Ai Quynh received a short-term exchange scholarship at the Center for Environmental Toxicology and Emerging Pollutants, Cheng Shiu University, Taiwan.

On June 13, 2024, representatives from the VNU-CRES, including Prof. Dr. Bui Ngoc Quy, Deputy Director, and Dr. Le Van Giang, Head of the Laboratory, along with representatives from the Department of Science and Technology of Phu Tho province, conducted a field inspection of four drinking water treatment models using advanced CDI technology, led by Dr. Le Van Giang.

On June 11, 2024, Prof. Dr. Le Quan, Secretary of the Party Committee and President of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, attended the ceremony and presented the decision on the appointment of leadership and management personnel at the university. During this event, Prof. Dr. Luu The Anh was reappointed as the Director General of the VNU-CRES for the 2024-2029 term.

On May 15, 2024, Dr. Le Van Giang received a Certificate of Merit from the President of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, recognizing his outstanding achievements in scientific research and innovation for the year 2023.

On May 14, 2024, Dr. Le Van Giang, representing the VNU-CRES, along with the project team, conducted a progress inspection of the project in Lam Thao and Thanh Son districts, Phu Tho province.

On May 12, 2024, the leadership of the VNU-CRES, led by Director General Prof. Dr. Luu The Anh, welcomed and held a working session with the leadership and experts from the Ministry of Science and Technology, who visited the Laboratory and Environmental Analysis.

On May 9, 2024, Dr. Le Van Giang had a discussion with Dr. Masatsugu Fujishige, the head of the RO membrane research group at Shinshu University, Japan, about the collaborative project "Research and Development of New RO Membrane Materials for Product Commercialization," aimed at applications in drinking water treatment in Viet Nam.

On April 11, 2024, Dr. Le Van Giang successfully defended a project funded by Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

On April 8, 2024, Dr. Le Van Giang traveled to Nanyang Environment & Water Research Institute at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, for a research exchange.

From March 29-30, 2024, the leadership team of the VNU-CRES, including Prof. Dr. Luu The Anh, Director General, and Prof. Dr. Bui Ngoc Quy, Deputy Director, visited livestock models for pigs and dairy cows, as well as organic fertilizer production models using agricultural by-products. In the afternoon, the delegation held meetings with local businesses and authorities in Dien Chau Town, Nghe An province, discussing the development of organic-oriented pork farming and sharing new technologies for circular and zero-waste livestock waste management.

On March 26, 2024, the Institute of Natural Resources and Environment officially received the VIMCERTS 327 certification. With Certificate No. 17/GCN-BTNMT issued by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Institute is now qualified to provide environmental monitoring services. The scope of monitoring includes:

• Surface water: 8 parameters measured on-site and 31 parameters analyzed in the laboratory.

• Groundwater: 8 parameters measured on-site and 34 parameters analyzed in the laboratory.

• Seawater: 6 parameters measured on-site and 8 parameters analyzed in the laboratory.

• Soil samples: 13 parameters analyzed in the laboratory.

• Sediment samples: 9 parameters analyzed in the laboratory.

On February 21, 2024, to celebrate the Lunar New Year, the VNU-CRES organized a spring outing, visiting Uncle Ho's Temple, Thuong Temple, and Mau Temple located within Ba Vi National Park.

On February 16, 2024, representing the VNU-CRES, Dr. Le Van Giang visited and extended Lunar New Year greetings to the leadership of the Faculty of Environmental Engineering and the leadership of the Science and Technology Advanced Institute at Van Lang University. During this visit, both sides held discussions about strategic tasks to be implemented in 2024. On the same day, Dr. Le Van Giang also visited and extended New Year greetings to the Director of Ever-Clear Vietnam company. During the meeting, the two parties had a detailed discussion about collaborative activities and plans for implementation in 2024.

On January 19, 2024, as part of the conference to implement the 2024 task plan, the strong research group on Resource Recovery and Sustainable Energy Regeneration was honored to receive a certificate of merit from the President of Vietnam National University, Hanoi. The award recognized research groups with outstanding achievements in 2023.

On January 19, 2024, Dr. Le Van Giang attended the Conference on the Implementation of the 2024 Science and Technology Plan for Hanoi City, held at the Hanoi Department of Science and Technology.

On January 15, 2024, Dr. Le Van Giang, along with volunteers from the Ministry of Information and Communications, visited and delivered 93 Tet gift packages accompanied by cash to 93 elderly leprosy patients at the Dermatology Hospital in Thai Binh province. Additionally, the delegation provided cash support for abandoned children at the parish.

On January 9, 2024, the VNU-CRES held a staff conference to discuss the performance of the current year and outline new tasks for 2024.

On January 3, 2024, the VNU-CRES welcomed and worked with the evaluation team from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to certify the unit as qualified to operate environmental monitoring services (VIMCERTS).

On December 27, 2023, the VNU-CRES welcomed the Director of the Environmental Company, the Leadership of the Personnel Department, and the delegation from the Vietnam National University, Hanoi to visit and work.

On December 17, 2023, the research group successfully defended their project at the Vietnam National University, Hanoi on the recovery of metals from electroplating sludge.

On December 15, 2023, the leadership of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology visited the laboratory and discussed new technologies developed by CRES. The delegation was welcomed by the Director General of VNU-CRES, Prof. Dr. Luu The Anh.

On December 13, 2023, a delegation from the Vietnam National University, Hanoi, visited the facilities of the Laboratory and Environmental Analysis.

On December 10, 2023, Ms. Nguyen Thi Xuan Hong, representing the research group, attended the "First International Conference on Practical Zero Emissions Technologies and Strategies," organized by the Australasia Practical Zero Emissions Society and the Ho Chi Minh University of Science and Technology. The event took place from December 9 to 12, 2023, at the Rex Hotel.

On December 8, 2023, the Laboratory and Environmental Analysis of the Central Institute for Natural Resources and Environmental Studies conducted a survey and collected wastewater samples from pig farming activities in 12 communes across Son Tay Town, Ba Vi District, and Phuc Tho District, Hanoi City.

On December 1, 2023, representatives from Cheng Shiu University, Taiwan, visited and worked with the VNU-Sustainable Energy and Resource Recovery Group.

On November 28, 2023, the team from the VNU-Sustainable Energy and Resource Recovery Group conducted a survey and collected wastewater samples from electroplating companies in Ha Nam, Hung Yen, and Vinh Phuc provinces.

On November 16, 2023, Dr. Le Van Giang participated in showcasing environmental treatment technology at the 2023 Circular Economy Forum organized by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

On November 9, 2023, Dr. Le Van Giang presented a paper on resource recovery and sustainable energy regeneration at the Institute of Geography, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.

On November 6, 2023, Dr. Po Lin Liao from National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan, visited the VNU-Sustainable Energy and Resource Recovery Group and delivered a keynote speech at the seminar on attracting investments from Taiwanese and Singaporean businesses into the fields of Resources and Environment.

On November 4, 2023, leaders of small and medium-sized enterprises in Vietnam and Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hieu, Vice President of Vietnam National University, visited the exhibition booth of CRES at the 2023 Investment Promotion Exhibition Zone.

On September 24, 2023, the delegation of the VNU-CRES, led by the Director General, Prof. Dr. Luu The Anh, conducted a field survey and worked with the Department of Science and Technology of Cao Bang province and Ha Nam province.

On August 24, 2023, Dr. Le Van Giang, leading a delegation from the VNU-CRES, conducted a survey on drinking water at schools in Thanh Son District, Tan Son District, and Viet Tri City, Phu Tho province.

On August 22, 2023, students from the International University, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, visited and had a hands-on experience at the CRES-Laboratory and Environmental Analysis.

On June 22, 2023, the "Environmental Monitoring Training Program," organized by the VNU-CRES in collaboration with the Northern Environmental Monitoring Center was successfully held. Participants who completed both theoretical and practical training sessions received certificates from the program.

On June 16, 2023, Dr. Le Van Giang was elected as a member of the Executive Committee and Chairman of the Inspection Committee of the Trade Union of the Central Institute for Natural Resources and Environmental Studies for the term 2023-2028.

On June 1, 2023, Dr. Le Van Giang was awarded the Talent Incubation Scholarship for Excellent Young Scientists Research Funding Recipient from Vietnam National University in 2023.

On May 18, 2023, Dr. Le Van Giang attended and presented his opinions at the conference celebrating Vietnam's Science and Technology Day.

On May 12, 2023, Dr. Le Van Giang, representing over 40 post–doctoral  and 60 PhD students, delivered a speech of gratitude and presented a commemorative gift to Mr. Do Quang Hien, CEO of T&T Group and Chairman of the Board of Directors of SHB Bank.

On April 12, 2023, Dr. Le Van Giang was invited by the Vietnam-Japan University to be a guest speaker and share his scientific research findings on resource recovery from waste.

On March 23, 2023, Prof. Dr. Luu The Anh, Director General of Central Institute for Natural Resources and Environmental Studies, led a delegation to meet with the Vice President of BAF Vietnam Joint Stock Company at their headquarters in Ho Chi Minh City. In the afternoon, the delegation visited the VNU-HCM Key Laboratory of Advanced Waste Treatment Technology.

On March 21, 2023, Dr. Le Van Giang delivered the keynote presentation at the Consultation Workshop on Key Models in the National Circular Economy Plan, organized by the Institute of Strategy and Policy on Resources and Environment, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

On March 7, 2023, the strong research team led by Prof. Dr. Luu The Anh, Director of the Central Institute for Natural Resources and Environmental Studies, successfully defended their project in front of the evaluation board.

On February 20, 2023, Dr. Le Van Giang successfully defended the VNU project on the treatment and recovery of lithium from electric vehicle batteries.

On February 10, 2023, the Director of the VNU-Institute of Microbiology and Biotechnology, visited and shared technologies with the staff of the VNU-Sustainable Energy and Resource Recovery Group.

On January 27, 2023, Prof. Dr. Pham Bao Son, Vice President of VNU, visited and extended New Year greetings to the staff of the VNU-Sustainable Energy and Resource Recovery Group.

On January 10, 2023, the Central Institute for Natural Resources and Environmental Studies, Vietnam National University, Hanoi successfully defended the project: "Application of capacitive deionization technology for drinking water treatment at schools in Phu Tho province."

On December 6, 2022, the Central Institute for Natural Resources and Environmental Studies, Vietnam National University, Hanoi organized the 12th National Geography Conference at the Party Committee of Son Tay Town, Hanoi.

On December 2, 2022, Dr. Le Van Giang presented the keynote report at the scientific conference on the assessment and current environmental status in the Central Key Economic Region, organized by the Central Highlands Environmental Protection Department.

On November 25, 2022, Dr. Le Van Giang attended the conference on the National Program for New Rural Development at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, where he took a photo with Dr. Tran Thanh Nam, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development. 

On September 20, 2022, the delegation from the Central Institute for Natural Resources and Environmental Studies, Vietnam National University, Hanoi conducted a survey and collected samples in Chi Lang and Huu Lung districts as part of the project to establish a geographical indication for custard apples in Lang Son province.

On August 4, 2022, Dr. Le Van Giang visited and worked with the Research and Development Center for Oil Processing, Vietnam Oil and Gas Institute, in Ho Chi Minh City.

On June 1, 2022, Prof. Dr. Yao Hui Huang and Dr. Le Van Giang welcomed the Chairman and the R&D Director of KUANG TAI Metal Industrial Co., Taiwan.
