One of the hardest parts of having these conversations is knowing the words to talk about them. So lets get these words out of adedemia and into the everyday vernacular.
Refers to the behaviors, social roles, and relations of men within a given society as well as the meanings attributed to them. The term masculinity stresses gender, unlike male, which stresses biological sex. Thus studies of masculinities need not be confined to biological males.
Visible signs one is "a man." These are assets or resources displayed in a valued way including: sports, drinking. One can gain masculine capital as well by doing classically masculine things such as: rejecting feminine behavior/homosexulaity, risk talking, boasting about having sex.

This is the adedemic term for "ideal man." It represents asperational goals: the normative standard. The most valued way to be a man.
Currently that is: white, tall, atheltic, upper-middle class, powerful, attractive.
Think the star quarterback in every high school movie.
Performing proper "manhood" or "womenhood." Includes both sexuality and gender.
AKA: Behvahing like your are supposed too based on the norms of your gender.
Sex: Biological differnces between men, women, or intersex indiviuals or sexual activity.
Gender: social construction based on those sexual differnces
Gender Policing: Usually using sexulaity to police gender. Usually peer to peer. Example: calling someone gay to disaprove of a perceived non-masculine behavior
The culture surrounding how younge men encourge other younge men to behave. It is often toxic, leading to things like: violence, over indulgence of drinking, and sexual assult.
