A Communication Dictionary captures three categories of information relevant to expressive communication:
1) The ways in which a child communicates using his/her body, voice, facial expressions and gestures
2) What the team believes each of the child’s different communication initiations mean (e.g. when the child smiles, it means she likes something)
3) How the adults will respond to each different kind of communication in order to reinforce and shape the behavior
