Shine was a various artists compilation album series released by PolyGram TV in Britain from 1995 to 1998, centring on indie rock, largely from new British bands (several American bands, like Green Day and Dinosaur Jr. appeared sparingly). The series began in 1995 to capitalize on the Britpop scene. In total, there were ten Shine albums, plus a 'Best of '97' compilation and a final 'Best of Shine' in 1998. The series ended in the late 1990s as the Britpop era passed.

In 2002, Joni Mitchell famously left the music business. The public first learned that she had returned to writing and recording in October 2006, when she spoke to The Ottawa Citizen. In an interview with the newspaper, Mitchell "revealed she's recording her first collection of new songs in nearly a decade" but gave few other details.[14]

The Sunday Times wrote in February 2007 that the album has "a minimal feel, a sparseness that harks back to her early work," adding that "rest and some good healers" had restored much of the singer's vocal power.[16] Mitchell herself described Shine as "as serious a work as I've ever done".[16]

The album was launched at the Sunshine Theater on Houston Street, New York City, on September 25, 2007, with a film of the Alberta Ballet performing The Fiddle and the Drum, a ballet devised by choreographer Jean Grand-Matre in collaboration with Mitchell that had premiered in Calgary on February 8 that year. The ballet uses a selection of Mitchell's songs, including "If I Had a Heart" and "If" from Shine, along with images from her art installation Flag Dance, which are projected as a backdrop.[17] The album cover features a scene from The Fiddle and the Drum. The CD was distributed with a matching blue band around it, not glued on, which obscured the bodies of the male dancers in tights from the general public.[citation needed]

Shine is only the second Joni Mitchell album never to have been distributed by Warner Music Group, the first being Night Ride Home, which was released by Geffen Records after the company was sold to MCA.

A lot of these songs just appeared whilst playing the auld acoustic in front of the fire during the wolf moon phase and a few have been knocking around in some shape or form since 2021.

Felt compelled to record them on my R16 and get em out into the digital realm so as to empty out the system and wait for the arrival of the next tunes.

In a parallel universe these have been recorded with a full string orchestra or at the very least a quartet and sound massive and immense. I hope i get to hear that someday.

If you want the album and have zero dosh send me a message and il send you a DL code.

Hope some of these musics are enjoyable for folk to hear as much as they were for me to sing.

Why would a festival not sale single day passes. that makes no sense. Who has time for a full weekend?

Despite the album, I am still looking forward to a great rock show with Adams and his band. It should be a fun night.

Brent has a real and honest soulful tone to his voice that delivers a true old fashioned style which is also slightly hypnotic and he pretty much takes you away from the real world as I found myself totally lost in every song off this album. If you enjoy artists such as Dylan ,previously mentioned Andrew Combs and Barna Howard then this is the album for you.

There is no bad song on this album as it is one of those must have albums that you can chill out to, enjoy immensely and it is endlessly playable. He even has a track on there titled Country Bound which his dad and uncle wrote when he was about five years old and the song is still very relevant now, in fact the entire album is relevant and will be timeless classic.

Warhol-adjacent by name, and contemporary by rock standards, Silver Car Crash does not disappoint in the slightest on their new full length Shattered Shine. The band is a little older, a little tighter, but maintains the same energy and jagged edge that was introduced to listeners in their 2018 debut Resource Body.

Listen to the album today exclusively via The Big Takeover. Shattered Shine officially drops this Thursday, June 15 on vinyl and cassette tape formats via Crafted Sounds and Michi Tapes. The band will celebrate their release at Bottlerocket Social Hall on Friday, June 16 with special guests Sleeping Witch & Saturn, Rex Tycoon, and Little Angels. Live visuals will also be provided by Michi Tapes. Tickets are on sale now.

Zack: The majority were written before the pandemic then we kinda chilled for a while during the quarantine until we decided it was time to get them off our chest. We tried a couple failed attempts to record some of them cheaply or by ourselves until we finally decided we should do it right and record them in two days at Mr. Smalls studio. It worked out well because by that time the songs had gotten really tight and became deserving of the real studio.

What were some of the biggest messages you were trying to get across in this album? Was there a theme or general narrative to things? I figure that can be difficult when splitting songwriting duties and such.

Justin: Sonic Youth were the reason I got into guitar so they will always stay at the top of the list for me. Gang of Four, Television, the Fall, MBV, Mission of Burma, Unwound, Wipers, and McCarthy were all influences for me on the album. As far as being a general music inspiration, gotta agree with Zack and also say Hank Williams. Best songwriter ever if you ask me.

Zack: The community at Bottlerocket is really great. They provide a very positive environment for musicians to perform and mingle. A lot of our friends in bands play there and a few of them are running the venue. They are very open to all styles of music and they create great music themselves.

The hardest part of writing an album review is wiping your mental slate clean. This process is necessary to free your mind of all biases, and allow for an honest listen & an objective critique of any body of work.

I Am a Pilgrim has 15 tracks performed by a roster of artists who performed with or have been influenced by Watson: Jerry Douglas, Dolly Parton, Steve Earle, Valerie June, and Rosanne Cash, to name just a handful. Generally speaking, all the musicians who contributed adhere to the established structure of the standards and Watson originals that comprise the album. But what makes the album such a rewarding listen is the obvious care and work each performer put into their respective song.

A great article on a very under appreciated and under recognized artist. Having grown up on west coast US new wave, this album would rocketed given the proper promotion and marketing it well deserves.

Her critically acclaimed jazz infused country album Shine, which was produced by her husband, was released in April of this past year and like a lot of other great music released in the early days of the pandemic, has fought against being lost in the maelstrom of craziness that is 2020.

Since the release of the album, Cash has promoted it in multiple ways including doing a series of acoustic versions of her songs on YouTube called the Cash Cabin Live Sessions. They can be accessed on her YouTube site here.

Ana Cristina Cash: Growing up as a child in Miami during the late eighties and early nineties, the most prevalent fixture there, for my world was Gloria Estefan, who was doing crossover music in that she was doing Latin music and pop music. She had fun singing in both Spanish and in English, and I loved that about her. I would say vocally Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey were also huge influences on me and for just being an overall entertainer, Shania Twain was a huge influence on me as well. I started listening to a lot of country music as a child and Shania, Leanne Rimes, and Faith Hill were some of my favorites as well as a lot of old school singers like Patsy Cline. I feel that I always identified more with female vocalists and I would spend a lot of time studying their vocals and learning their songs. In addition, I also had a big interest in musical theater growing up as well. 152ee80cbc
