As the name suggest, this is a style of dirt biking that is all about endurance. These are races that take place on natural terrain such as riding over rocks, creeks, logs and other natural elements. Other hazards on an Enduro course include low hanging trees and branches. The trail is marked, but is all natural.
Enduro races are not about crossing the finish line first, they are about keeping pace. Races take place with riders starting in groups and being taken off the track at certain times and intervals. Everything is timed, but the key is to keep a steady pace. Scoring is done at the intervals and riders can be penalized for arriving late, or early in some events to the checkpoints.
Enduros typically take place in loops. They consist of quite a bit of mileage and typically over a time period of several hours. Enduros start in intervals rather than everyone on the line at one time.
Let's talk about registration for a National Enduro!
Have you ever tried to register for a National Enduro online?WOW! Thank goodness for my mom's fast typing skills! I was able to register for my first enduro and get row 17 in the Schoolboy class for the Sumter National Enduro in 2020. Let me just also say that I am proud to have raced a National Enduro at the age of 12!
Fast-forward to 2021- a little more complicated with registration, but once all the kinks were worked out on PayPal's end (the site kept crashing), etc. we managed to secure a spot on row 65! I raced in the Futures 14-16 class. Results Here. This wasn't a great race for me, but the experience was awesome! I'm young! I have time to grow and learn, right? Got to keep pushing! 💪🏁
Even though it was very cold, the trails did not disappoint!
Here is a video of my start this year (2021).
