Horseback rides in the Camargue
Discover the local fauna and flora on a horseback ride. Trips are suitable for all levels and offer a full immersion in nature.
Secret spot: La Pinède du Boucanet, between scrubland and gentle waves, away from the crowds
Just a stone’s throw from the busy seaside, the Boucanet pine forest offers a delightful walking area sheltered by umbrella pines. Protected by the Conservatoire du Littoral, it stretches between ponds and scrubland, with a path leading to nearby La Grande Motte, crossing the Vidourle, the coastal river separating the Gard and Hérault departments. The light changes with the seasons, and the calm is soothing, with the gentle lapping of the water at Étang du Ponant.
A 2-hour easy-level itinerary: start with a walk along Boucanet beach, then cross the road to continue hiking in the Boucanet pine forest and along Étang du Ponant, discovering local flora and fauna and meeting a horse herd. Wander and enjoy the tranquility. The walk can be extended with a visit to the town after a lunch break.

Discover the Gard coastline by bike
Kilometers of cycle paths start from Le Grau-du-Roi / Port Camargue.
Hikers, cyclists, joggers, rollerbladers, scooter riders, strollers, and people with reduced mobility can enjoy the Espiguette greenway, the first classified greenway in Gard. Nearly 5 km long and 4 m wide, this motor-free cycle path offers a smooth, congestion-free route to the beach. Passing through marshes and ponds, it showcases one of the three major landscapes of the Grand Site of the Camargue Gardoise. A stop is recommended at the Sicarex Lagoon observatory to admire local fauna and flora.
To extend the ride, continue along the greenway between Aigues-Mortes and Le Grau-du-Roi, in the heart of the Grand Site of the Camargue Gardoise. This flat 6 km route follows the maritime channel. Many birds can be observed, including flamingo colonies, with stunning colors from greenery, ponds, sky, and salt flats. Along the way, discover the Grand Site de la Camargue Gardoise visitor center, the Domaine Royal de Jarras—Europe’s largest vineyard planted in sand—and the salt mounds of the Aigues-Mortes salt flats, La Baleine. Visit the salt flats or the Domaine Royal de Jarras.
