Hatchlings are baby leopard geckos who have just hatched from their eggs. They are considered hatchlings from day one to 2 months.
Hatchlings are completely new to this world and running purely off of instinct. Because of this, they tend to be very defensive and see you as a predator. Common behaviors are screeching, lunging, biting, and hissing.
Leopard gecko hatchlings tend to be about 2in (5cm) long. By 2 months, they can reach about 3 inches (8cm) in length.
Because they are so tiny, hatchlings can be kept in much smaller enclosures than juveniles or adults. While the minimum for juveniles is 20gal and the minimum for adults is 40gal, the minimum for hatchlings is a floorspace of about 10x8in (25x20cm). Many people like to use just small plastic containers and add ventilation.
