My name is André Morgan. I am currently cast as Gordon Bailey in the touring Rock Opera FOCUS. My portrayal of Gordon, a talented music teacher that provides a home for kids with musical talents, is based on Leonard Sherman.
My guitar and ukulele skills greatly improved once I began studying with Leonard. He inspired me to strive for greatness while celebrating all my tiny accomplishments along the way. His multi musical instrument knowledge and compassionate heart are present at each lesson. And the mentoring he provides young musicians is what makes him truly special. Whenever I am in town, I will be fine tuning my skills with Leonard; my favorite Instructor and current character role model.
My name is Melanie. I have seen Leonard work with various populations of students with varying levels of competency, from autism spectrum to middle school students, to adult; he has a special ability to adapt his teaching style to the needs of the student. Leonard is a multi-instrumentalist, playing and teaching clarinet, saxophone, guitar, bass guitar, piano, drums and other percussive instruments as well as voice. Personally, he has helped me overcome some learning blocks with clarinet and find my voice with breathing techniques and harmony tips. He is thoughtful, patient and professional. I would highly recommend him even if you just need a nudge in the right direction, he can guide you so that you learn to love your instrument for a lifetime of music enjoyment.
Leonard Sherman is a wonderful person. He teaches piano and often brings in other instruments. I think he would be a wonderful fit if not now, in a year or two. I don't know if he knows of any group setting with other kids but one- on-one musically he is warm and creative and can work with anyone's particular situation. He realized my kid hates memorizing and practicing pieces and so they get together and improvise and compose and jam on horn and piano. One day my son will praactice but for now he is developing his ear and his musicality and he is staying engaged. (510) 684-6832. You can also Yelp him. Maria
I would highly recommend Leonard Sherman for piano lessons. He has over 12 years experience and I was very happy with his patience, methods and coaching style. His website is www.leonardsherman.com if you would like more information.. also he can be reached at 510-684-6382 Scott
To the parent who is looking for a piano teacher:
My 11 year-old son has been taking keyboard lessons from an excellent teacher, Leonard Sherman, for the past two years. (Len also teaches piano and the sax.) He has introduced my son to a range of musical styles (classical, jazz, even movie themes, like Star Wars and Mission Impossible) in addition to teaching my son how to compose, sight-read and do improv. Their relationship is very collaborative and I appreciate how open and responsive Len is to my son's specific interests. The result is my son has learned a great deal and enjoyed it every step of the way.
