Maromizaha
In 2023 I spend five months in the montane forest of Maromizaha, studying Indri lemurs for my master thesis. I have with me a small sketchbook where I draw plants and animals that I meet following hidden streams and wandering on mossy slopes.
High Plateau
The Central Highlands are arid and red. I draw the peculiar shapes of its plants and the ancestral rites of its people.
Indian Ocean
The humid East coast hosts mangroves and swamps, there people grow vanilla, cinnamon, and cloves. In contrast, in the isolated villages of the West coast, the people depend primarly on the ocean for their sustenance. Every day the fishrmen brave the crashing waves on wooden pirogues to reach the coral reef.
Once, on one of those reedy boats my sketchbook has met the ocean and some drawings have blended on the salty pages...
