All applicants must meet the State of State of Leon County Minimum Standards requirements
Leon County Civilian Membership
Cannot be younger than the age of 17
High School diploma, G.E.D. Certificate
Valid State of Leon County driver’s license
No felony convictions
Good moral character and reputation

Leon County Sheriffs Department Training Academy
Probationary Period
On patrol with the LCSO.
The Leon County Sheriffs Office Training Academy has an extensive curriculum that include EVOC courses, basic LEO operations, and furthermore courses to ensure the correct standards are met. The Academy is open six days out of the week, having Monday being an off-period, and are always open. Training will usually last one to two hours. Recruits are taught all procedures and educated on criminal law. The recruit must successfully complete all training course to pass and continue on as a deputy.
After successful completion of the Leon County Sheriffs Office Regional Academy training, recruits are sworn in and assigned to a Field Training Officer. (FTO) The Field Training Program is designed to teach and let the Probationary Officer use skills they have learned over their time. This program is a bridge between academy training and the actual performance of an Officer in the field.
A minimum of 2 patrols is spent working with a field training officer. The FTO will grade the Probationary Officer based on their performance on the field. Officers who successfully pass this phase of training, will be able to have their own patrol vehicle and patrol as a Leon County Sheriffs Deputy.
