About us
Le Omeriche Dimore were born from the desire to bring new life to what was once our grandparents’ home — a place that still guards the most cherished memories of our childhood.
Le Omeriche Dimore were born from the desire to bring new life to what was once our grandparents’ home — a place that still guards the most cherished memories of our childhood.
Our grandmother, Giovannina, came from a family of fishermen deeply rooted in the small coastal village of Acitrezza.
Our grandfather, Alfio, originally from a nearby town, came from a family of merchants.
Together, they built a simple yet meaningful life in this house — the same one that now welcomes our guests.
The building was originally constructed by our grandmother’s parents in the early 1900s: a spacious two-story home with a terrace overlooking the sea and a courtyard filled with life and laughter. Over time, the property was divided among the family, but its soul, that sense of belonging and hospitality, remained intact.
When our grandparents started their own family here, they turned part of the house into a small shop, trading fresh fish, eggs, vegetables, and poultry — all produced with their own hands. It was a small, genuine, born in the rural Acitrezza of the 1960s, serving neighbors and friends.
Later, our grandfather even traveled across Sicily as a street vendor, bringing a piece of our sea to every fair he visited.
Our mother and her siblings grew up surrounded by this spirit of work, family, and hospitality. The ground floor was their home, while the upper floor was often rented out to travelers — sometimes even to foreign visitors, long before tourism became common here.
We, the grandchildren, still remember with affection the days spent in that house:
The early-morning walks with our grandfather through the village, watching fishermen prepare their nets as dawn painted the sea gold;
The friendly visits to neighbors and friends, where every smile made us feel part of one big family;
The scent of freshly washed laundry drying in the sea breeze, mingling with the view of the Faraglioni from the terrace;
The endless afternoons spent playing with our uncles on that same terrace, under the bright Sicilian sun.
Restoring this house was our way of honoring their memory — of breathing new life into a place that has always been a symbol of family, simplicity, and authenticity. Today, Le Omeriche Dimore blend tradition and modern comfort, preserving the charm of the past while offering the comfort of the present.
It is easy to imagine this house as a living stage for the stories told in Giovanni Verga’s The House by the Medlar Tree (I Malavoglia).
Its walls, its courtyard, and the view of the sea seem to echo the same atmosphere — the dignity, the struggle, and the poetry — of the Trezza of Verga’s time. When you walk through these rooms, you can almost hear the voices of fishermen, the rhythm of the waves, and the eternal bond between the people of the sea and their land.
The name “Le Omeriche” draws inspiration from the myths and legends of Homer’s Odyssey, which have always surrounded this stretch of sea. Between myth and memory, our home stands as a bridge between past and present — between the stories once told by sailors and fishermen and the stories our guests continue to write today.
Here, where Ulysses once defied the Cyclops and where the love of Acis and Galatea was born, we invite you to live your own journey — to feel the warmth of a Sicilian home, the scent of the sea, and the beauty of a place where history, legend, and real life meet.
