Tonight, after hearing the scriptures, we wash each other’s feet. We respond to Christ’s command: Love One Another. As we participate in or witness the footwashing, we are reminded the great love of Christ, and his call to us in this profound act of love and service.
Then, united ever more firmly in love, we are called to the Table. “Do this in memory of me.” "Come, says St. Augustine, "Take what you are and become what you eat." Tonight we celebrate Jesus' amazing gift of the Eucharist.
Finally, we are called to the garden—we process with Christ in the Eucharist to the altar of repose. Jesus asks his disciples - asks us - to “Stay with me, remain here with me.”
