At the start of my student life, I decided to pick up tennis again. My brother and I both joined the tennis association D.S.T.V. Obvius and started playing frequently. Every year a spring and a fall competition organised in the Netherlands — my team and I participate in all of them.
During summertime, a lot of tournaments are hosted in the area, which offer a great opportunity for me to play some more matched (and earn some rating).
Most of my youth I played in a field hockey team based in my home-town. During that time I always played in the first team within the age group, peaking at a competition one level lower than the national youth league.
My most memorable match was played in AH&BC's Wagener Stadium, beating the Amsterdam squad and receiving special mention in the local newspaper.
As a privileged Dutch person, I got the opportunity to skiing yearly throughout my life. After practicing on skies for the first 8 years, I also started learning how to snowboard. In recent years however, I tend to prefer skiing, but this does depend on the snow-conditions .
For me, nothing beats being outside, on the mountain for a week. Whether the conditions are snowy, sunny or misty, I always find myself enjoying this time.
Being outside, active, and social are three things I really enjoy. Golf, is the sport that encompasses all of these things. No matter the type of play, albeit at the driving range or playing a full 18-hole course, I do find myself enjoying the quietness and relaxation this sport provides me.
Having only played a few "official" rounds, my handicap is limited to a mere 46.9. However, this will (hopefully) improve in the near future!
In the second year of my studies, I joined the rowing association D.S.R. Proteus-Eretes. Throughout 2 years I was active rowing matches for the nation-wide competition, peaking with a win on the Amsterdam bases 'Bosbaan'.
Due to my interest in several other sports, I shifted my focus from rowing to tennis. However, when I get the opportunity I always return to the boat on water.
