The purpose of the LEND CARES program is to:
Provide leadership training to the next generation of individuals who will provide care to individuals with disabilities and
Serve individuals with neurodevelopmental disabilities and their families in our region.
The CARES program is affiliated with the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh (CHP) and provides a unique experience that utilizes the principles of case-based learning to give trainees from multiple disciplines the opportunity to develop leadership skills on an interdisciplinary team. On a practical level, LEND trainees work within interdisciplinary teams to engage with children and young adults with disabilities and their families over the course of the LEND year. LEND CARES is an avenue to practice MCH leadership competencies taught via instructional learning.
Who is involved?
LEND CARES involves faculty from the University and UPMC CHP, LEND trainees, and children with disabilities and their families. LEND faculty represent varied disciplines so that comprehensive support is readily available to our trainees.
When does CARES occur?
Individuals with disabilities and their families are seen on designated Wednesdays during the fall and spring academic semesters, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. On other Wednesdays, time is allotted for the CARES interdisciplinary teams to complete case reviews and prepare for upcoming sessions.
About individuals we serve:
