Author: Melody Carlson.
Series: Standalone novel.
Book Premise: Madison is a wealthy, spoiled high school student from New York city. She's tired of having her decisions made for her by her parents, and wishes her obnoxious boyfriend would get a life. Meanwhile, not far away, Amish teen Anna wants a taste of English life. After her first love left the community for the city, she hasn't been satisfied with Plain life. On her way to visit a relative, she runs into a city girl her age, who happens to look just like her! So why not switch places and get a taste of each other's wildly different lives? What could go wrong? Madison and Anna will soon get some serious culture-shock, learn a few lessons, and discover that the grass isn't always greener on the other side.
Reading Level/Genre: Realistic, chick-lit, Amish. Great for ages 13+.
Profanity: 0/5. No language.
Violence: 0/5. No violent moments.
Spice Level: 2/5. Very light discussions of romantic drama, some dating themes, and a kiss is shared between two characters.
Faith Elements: 3/5. Anna and Madison both have unique faith journeys in this book. God is discussed, and there is a good amount of praying.
Additional Content: One are two passing references to birth control, said because the Amish often have a lot of children.
My Take: Sweet, faith-filled chick-lit novel. I'm not a fan of Melody Carlson generally (some of her YA books can be quite heavy), but this was a great surprise. Hope to find more of these!
