Not at all! We pride ourselves on being an inclusive team. We have members who have competed and members who have never put on a pair of ghillies before their first workshop. We teach everything from the basics to complex choreography.
Your dance schedule depends on your personal schedule! Each dance practices for one hour a week, and we'll send a form asking how many dances you want to be in. During the month leading up to our show, we will add mandatory technical rehearsals on the weekends.
If you participate on the competition team, there will be a larger time commitment.
Both! We are active members of the Collegiate Irish Dance Association (CIDA). We often compete at the National Collegiate Championships and other university-hosted intercollegiate competitions. However, our biggest event of the year is our own Annual Showcase, which is a full-scale theatrical production.
We actively recruit in the fall! Look for us at Festifall or email us to join our interest list. We will hold a Mass Meeting to introduce our club, and then we host two workshops. These workshops will teach you the basics of Irish dance and some traditional Léim reels. You only have to attend one workshop. After this process, you will be able to decide if you want to join the club!
As a student-run organization, we work hard to keep costs low. We do not use traditional competition dresses and will provide a skirt or bowtie. You will be responsible for your own leotard/tights or dress clothes, softshoes, and hardshoes if you are at that level. Shoes are frequently available for resale prices online.
If you decide to participate in our competition team, you may have additional out of pocket costs.
