And we seek after these things..
We hope all young women in our stake will attend camp!
Here are some things that parents and daughters need to be aware of about the week at camp:
Participation: Girls are expected to participate in the full camp program including all hikes, duties, campfires, and other activities. Girls are not to leave the camp perimeters. A buddy system is used while at camp.
Respect: Girls are expected to appreciate their surroundings and to help keep Heber Valley Camp a beautiful place to be. They are to be respectful and courteous, not only to other campers but to counselors and staff who volunteer their time, talents and energy to ensure the safety, well-being and enjoyment of all campers.
Moral / Dress Code: The guidelines in “For the Strength of Youth: A Guide For Making Choices” are the standard at camp. As stated in this guide, "Avoid styles that emphasize or draw inappropriate attention to your physical body instead of who you are as a child of God with an eternal future." Problems with regard to the Word of Wisdom, profanity or other inappropriate language, moral infractions, stealing, lying or other dishonesty and other camp rules will be addressed by camp leaders, with parent involvement when deemed necessary. Any serious acts of disregarding camp rules could result in an early departure from camp.
We Strongly Discourage Bringing: Cell phones, any electrical equipment, anything that will distract from being present at camp, money, jewelry or anything else of value.
Medications: All medications (prescription and non-prescription) must be checked into the camp doctor upon arrival at camp in their original prescription container with the label intact. If you have an over-the-counter medicines please check that in as well with instructions as needed. All medicine at camp must be dispensed by a medical professional. The only exceptions are epipens and inhalers, which can be kept with the camper at all times.
Q: I heard the stake is doing camp differently this year. Is that true? What does that mean?
A: YES! The stake has decided to have a "true" stake camp, which means we will not be going to camp in wards.
Q: So, who will my daughter sleep with if it’s not with her ward?
A: Girls will be divided up by grade, age, or year of camp. All the girls in her cabin will be around the same grade, age, or year of camp.
Q: Will there be adults in the cabin?
A: Yes! There will be at least two leaders in each cabin. Each cabin will have 12-14 girls of the same grade, age, or year of camp. In some cabins, there may be four leaders.
Q: Who will be the adults in the cabins?
A: Each level leader coming to camp has been called to serve in the Young Women's Program in their ward. We have prayed and discussed endlessly with where each leader is serving.
Q: Who are the other adults coming to camp?
A: Each adult coming to camp, if not in the Young Womens program, has been approved by their bishop to come and help serve at camp.
Q: Can my daughter sign up with a friend?
A: YES! When you register your daughter, you can choose 1-2 friends for her to be in the same group with. These friends can either be from her ward or another ward in our stake. They do need to be in the same grade, age, or year of camp (for example, you can’t pair a 17-year-old with a 12-year-old). However, they will see each other throughout camp when we all gather together.
Q: How are we getting to camp? Will the wards be in charge of driving their girls up?
A: We are so excited! We will meet at the stake center the morning of camp and travel together on buses.
Q: Will they eat with their ward?
A: No, we will be eating together as a stake for every meal. 😊
Q: But what if my daughter has food allergies?
A: Our Head Cook, Natalie Thompson is extremely attentive who will ensure every meal is safe and delicious. She and her family have food allergies, so she and her team will be taking extra care to avoid cross-contamination and meet all dietary needs, making sure every camper enjoys worry-free meals. Plus, the food will be amazing!
Q: How will she know about my child’s food allergies?
A: When you register your daughter, there is a place for you to share any food allergies.
Q: How long is camp?
A: Camp is three nights. We will meet at the church early Monday morning, June 16th, and leave camp on Thursday, June 19th, in the morning by 9:00 AM. We should arrive back at the stake center between 10:00 and 11:00 AM.
Q: What will we be doing at camp?
A: Camp will have amazing opportunities for unity & fun, including tomahawk throwing, a low and high ropes course, canoeing or paddle boating, crafting, spiritual growth classes, time in nature, and plenty of laughing and singing. Girls will not want to miss it!
Q: Why are we not going up as wards this year?
A: There are many reasons why we’ve chosen to do Stake Camp differently this year. We want to help provide an opportunity for these wonderful Young Women to develop a real relationship with God in the very nature He created. We also want to give them an opportunity to create lasting friendships with others throughout our stake and build unity.
Q: Will my daughter still get to be a YCL?
A: YES! They will be the light of our camp, leading out and bringing the fun. They will get more instruction at their YCL meeting on March 2nd. We can’t do camp without them!
What we need from you!
This will be a new change for all involved, including us as leaders. We pray that leaders, girls, and parents will be positive and supportive as we make this transition. If so, we will have the most successful, memorable, fun camp ever!
