In order to have a strong team, we need dedicated dancers. The poms season is from May-end of March. Summer commitments include a multi-day poms camp, potential dance intensive, choreography days, and practice several days of the week (There will be a several week break towards the end of summer). During the school year, there will be several practices a week before school, a weekly technique class, and tumbling class. The team performs at home football games, potentially away football games, and home basketball games. They also have their own competition season which includes about 5 competitions starting mid November and running through December with the possibility of attending nationals (varsity only) in February or March.
While participation in studio dance teams is respected, during the poms season, poms events must take priority.
The best way to prepare is to dance, stretch and work on strength training and stamina. We are offering a pre-tryout clinic March 30 and April 1st at Legacy High School for $50. Link Here We hope to see you there!
We value your school commitments. Grades that are a C or below will constitute a discussion with coach to see if time away from the team might be needed to devote time to studying. CHSAA requirements are all athletes with two Fs cannot perform in school events including dancing at games or participating in competitions until their grades improve.
Our dancers are members of a variety of different school clubs and leadership opportunities. Poms is a fall and winter sport. During this time a priority to poms is expected. Participation in spring sports are encouraged, but you must communicate with coach.
Tryouts are closed. No one but the dancers who have fulfilled the requirements on the "Tryout Page" , coaches and judges can be in attendance. Practices throughout the season are also closed. We have several opportunities throughout the year such as the winter showcase for friends and family to support.
Poms team does have a cost to the families. There will be two larger payments due April and May with monthly dues to the Booster following. Expenses include a several day overnight camp, potential dance intensive, professional choreography, music fees, competition fees, uniforms, additional gear and practice attire, among other items. Total cost for the season is approximately $4,000. However, please to not get sticker shock! There are many fundraising oppertunites that can greatly reduce a families out of pocket expense! More details about cost and fundraising will be discussed at the parent meeting on March 30th, as well as an additonal parent/athlete meeting on April 14th if you make the team.
