Legacy High School

Wichita Falls, Texas

Despite a few setbacks, two new high schools in Wichita Falls are still scheduled to debut in the autumn of 2024.

Tuesday's board meeting for Wichita Falls ISD featured the most recent school news.

Both Memorial and Legacy appear to be headed in the same direction. Both of the new high schools are extremely close to being enclosed, with the majority of the steel framework and concrete walls already in place.

In order to work on the interior of the buildings when the weather gets chilly, WFISD officials are trying to have it all finished before winter. They must, however, work around the delays since, like many other projects, they are confronted with the problem of material shortages.

Architect David Potter observed, "It is a perpetual struggle with materials. "We have been quite lucky in that we were able to order items early in the project, allowing us to have them here in the majority of cases. Although we are battling with not knowing when items will arrive, we still believe we are on schedule with the materials right now.

According to him, his projects generally take 14 months to complete, so the fact that they began with a two-year timeline for this task was advantageous because it gave them some wiggle space in case of delays.

The three existing high schools inside the WFISD will be replaced by the two new ones. While Memorial will be off of Kell and 369, Legacy will be off the Henry S. Grace Freeway out in the country near Castaway Cove.

The mascots for the two new high schools in the Wichita Falls Independent School District have been revealed in colorized draft form, along with the official colors for each of the two new high schools.

The leopards of WF Legacy High School will wear royal blue and gold, while the mavericks of WF Memorial High School will wear navy and crimson. The school district highlighted that the colored logos released for both institutions were only preliminary designs created to give pupils an idea of what the mascot might like.

WFISD will collaborate with a graphic design firm to decide on the final logo design and branding principles for both schools. The mascots and colors will also be sent to architects, who will use them in the school designs.

Below is a summary of the timetable and the results of the student voting supplied by the school district.

A graphic design firm will now receive the chosen submissions and create the final logos and other artwork.

The final logos and branding guidelines for each institution will be created by the graphic design firm after receiving the chosen designs.

To choose their mascots and colors, students in the second through ninth grades cast electronic ballots on February 8. These were the vote results:

In August 2021, the mascot and colors were chosen. The school naming committee convened in September 2021, went over the feedback from the public, and chose five potential mascots for the Board of Trustees to consider. The Board of Trustees asked district administration to contact more members of the naming committee through email because the bulk of them were unable to attend the meeting for selection. All of the naming committee's 40 members received an email ballot, and 35 of them responded. The naming committee's leading picks were:
